UPDATED: CBS Sports issued their yearly press release yesterday touting all their golf coverage for the coming season. In it, they contained this interesting nugget about The Masters:
The Masters, the most renowned golf tournament and the longest-running sports event on CBS Sports will be showcased for the 58th consecutive year from Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. Coverage includes a pair of 15-minute highlight shows recounting early-round action on Thursday, April 11 and Friday, April 12 (11:35-11:50 PM, ET, both nights). Live coverage of the third round will be broadcast on Saturday, April 13 (3:00-7:00 PM, ET) and live 18-hole final-round coverage will be presented on Sunday, April 14 (2:00-7:00 PM, ET).
The news here is this: Saturday’s coverage is listed as 3-7pm ET. I have confirmed through CBS Sports spokeswoman Jennifer Sabatelle that that is indeed correct, so golfers have gotten what they wanted: more coverage of The Masters via an additional 30 minutes of coverage on Saturday (it was previously 3:30-7pm ET).
The Masters gets worse year by year. If only CBS would listen to the many golfing fan tweets it must get, and (no pun intended), ditch the birdsong track, as well its schmaltzy stringed music, and the honey- dripped gushing and swooning over all players participating.
As for Billy Payne, appropriately named, please, someone, kidnap him and throw him into Rae’s Creek, just before he enters the clubhouse and ruins
another, otherwise, celebration by opening his smarmy gob.
