UPDATE: Woody has been informed of his cut: “”Just informed about my release….I want to thank the Jets and all the fans out there…it was a great ride!” Woody tweeted.” As I say before, hopefully he gets re-signed after all the dusts settles.

It’s cut season in the NFL, with teams making some roster moves before the league year ends at March 3. The Jets are no different.

The New York Daily News’ Manish Mehta is reporting that the Jets will all cut Kris Jenkins, Damien Woody, Jason Taylor and Vernon Gholston. He also tweets that “There’s a possibility Jets may re-sign Jenkins, Gholston, Woody and/or Taylor to reduced salaries after they are cut, per sources.”

I’m fine with every single one of those cuts except for Woody. He’s the heart and soul of that offensive line and it can be argued that the line has helped the Jets in the last two years more than anyone.

I sure hope they get him resigned.

At media day for The Heritage today, the Hilton Head Island PGA Tour event whose had Verizon as a sponsor in recent years, the PGA Tour was pretty clear: get a sponsor, or you won’t see 2012.

PGA Tour vice president Ty Votaw says it is “imperative” for the tournament to secure a replacement sponsor to keep the tournament at Harbour Town Golf Links for 2012 and beyond.

Tournament director Steve Wilmot said it would cost about $7.6 million for a company to underwrite the event.

I’ve been to Harbour Town. It’s absolutely beautiful. It would be a damn shame to see this PGA Tour event go away. I sure hope someone steps up and puts their name on the event. It would be for a great cause.

Luke Donald Wins the Accenture Match Play Championship: The victory is Donald’s third of his PGA Tour career. That may shock some people. For such a sweet swinger of the golf club he’s had little success on the PGA Tour. He’s fallen into a very large group of promising, consistent, steady players who win occasionally but just seem to not have that breakthrough (World Golf Championship, a major, etc) win to go along with past success. Maybe this is that victory for Donald. He’s got all the talent in the world.

Tiger Woods Shooting a 75 on Sunday in Dubai: It’s a process. New swings need to be tested under every possible condition and Sunday presented a new one: heavy winds. He called it a learning experience and that it exposed some flaws in the swing. He’ll get them fixed.

D.A. Points and Bill Murray win Pebble: maybe this is a lesson for all of us: keep it light, have distractions from a big name comedian, and you’ll play better. It worked for Points who got his first PGA Tour victory and notched Murray his first Pebble Beach Pro-Am victory.

Tim Rosaforte of Golf World, Golf Channel, and NBC had an interesting tweet last night:

Weather issues, no gate and no player love for Dove Mountain has created scenario of Accenture to Doral and Cadillac taking WGC to Detroit.

That would certainly be something interesting and help fulfill a goal of the PGA Tour ever since the old Buick Open went away — get PGA Tour golf back to Detroit.

Stay tuned.
