UPDATE: This post from PGATOUR.com’s Brian Wacker says that is not likely to occur:
There was also a report Thursday that should Tebow play, officials would like him to be paired with Tiger Woods. [Ollie, head of Monterey Peninsula Foundation] Nutt, however, said that is not the case.
A more likely scenario will see Woods paired with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who is already committed to the tournament and has played with Woods before. Ryan Palmer, who lives in Dallas and is friends with Romo, confirmed as much as well, saying that Romo already told him that he is playing with Woods.
ORIGINAL POST: Brian Hewitt, who left Golf Channel a couple years ago to start the online golf publication Global Golf Post is out today with a potentially huge story if it becomes true: Tiger Woods and Tim Tebow paired together at Pebble:
A highly placed source at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am confirmed Thursday that the tournament is strongly considering issuing an invitation to Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow. The source also told Global Golf Post that if Tebow accepts, the tournament’s first choice as a partner for Tebow will be Tiger Woods.
On Monday, Woods announced he will enter the event for the first time since 2002. The tournament has not yet officially announced who his amateur partner will be. Early speculation has centered around Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.
But, the source said, if Tebow accepts his invitation and Woods approves the pairing, the two will partner.
Needless to say, if this comes to fruition and Tiger accepts, this will be a gigantic ratings event for Golf Channel and CBS.
