Wow. What a day at the PGA at Atlanta Athletic Club. Three thoughts:
1) Tiger never ceases to amaze me. -3 through 5, he decided to stop thinking mechanical thoughts and just play. And then it all fell apart. +10 through his next 13, and currently in a tie for 130th. He’s gonna probably need a 64 or 65 to make the cut, and it surely seems like his chance at major #15 is gone.
2) What a day by Rory McIlroy. He injures his wrist on #3 hitting a root — strains a tendon — yet continues, icing it, getting massages on it between shots, and eventually putting tape on it, and shoots an even par 70 to stay in the ball game. What a gamer.
3) Steve Stricker leads with a -7 63. Anyone who follows golf knows how fantastic of a putter he is, and if he keeps this up and keeps hitting fairways and greens…he’s your champion. I’ll say it right now: if he keeps this up, he’s a major champion, and probably Player of the Year…it’d be his third victory of 2011.
