Sean Martin of Golfweek has a major exclusive tonight, reporting that the PGA Tour’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions will end on a Monday, intentionally:
“The event is finishing on Monday so the final round will not conflict with the NFL Playoffs,” [PGA Tour Executive Vice President Andy] Pazder wrote in an email. “In addition, it moves the event one additional day away from the Christmas/New Year’s Day holiday, which is a plus for the players, Hyundai and Hyundai’s guests.”
This is a fantastic decision. The PGA Tour has had some fantastic finishes in the Fall Series and early on in the PGA Tour season that get lost in the shuffle compared to the behemoth that is the NFL. Moving it to a Monday will help that cause majorly.
It does, however, conflict with the BCS National Championship game, but Pazder says the tournament will end before that game finishes.
