Tiger Woods is in a protective boot to protect the Achilles, and on crutches so that he doesn’t have to limp, which keeps pressure of the knee and back. He’s doubtful for the Memorial Tournament, which he has to commit to by Friday at 5pm ET. He really wants to play in the United States Open at Congressional in three weeks.
Those are all facts.
The rest, is uncertainly, hope, and faith. He says this issue doesn’t worry him as much as the reconstructive knee surgery in 2008 following the US Open did. He’s focusing on more short-term issues than long-term. He sounds cautiously, confidently, optimistic.
Is there something else going on inside of Tiger? Maybe. We’ll probably never know.
So the conclusion that I walk away from today’s AT&T National Media Day press conference with is that Tiger THINKS he’ll be OK. But we won’t know for sure until he steps up to that first tee shot whenever he next plays. And truly see how he feels.
