UPDATE: Tiger said after the WD that his knee, Achilles and calf all locked up on the first hole and that he basically couldn’t go any more after 9. He now needs to see the doc and decide where he goes from here.
As for when we see Tiger, I don’t know. This is not good news at all, obviously. I’d doubt he’ll play in the US Open and I’d also doubt we’ll see him play much for the rest of 2011. And I think we may be able to kiss Tiger’s chance of breaking Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 majors goodbye too.
ORIGINAL POST: Tiger Woods has withdrawn from The Players Championship after shooting 42 on his first 9 holes. He hit two balls in the water on #4 and had to make an 18 footer for 7. He cited multiple injuries.
All the tweets and news updates are still coming through, and this post will be come clearer as time goes on but he was apparently walking very slowly, favoring his left side, and clearly was not the Tiger Woods we know.
This is not good. Tiger is scheduled to have two weeks off before the Memorial Tournament the first weekend in June.
