Another twenty-something winning starts this week’s What It Means:
Martin Laird Wins at Bay Hill: Laird fits the trend: another guy in his 20s from Europe winning on the PGA Tour. And this time he used a nifty European links-style bump and run shot to help put his round back on track. After struggling in the first portion of the round that included a water ball on 11, Laird used the useful shot out of the trees on 15 to get himself into position to make a birdie, followed by another on 16 and a sensational two-putt par to clinch victory on 18. It was Laird’s second PGA Tour victory, the first coming in 2009 in Las Vegas.
