At media day for The Heritage today, the Hilton Head Island PGA Tour event whose had Verizon as a sponsor in recent years, the PGA Tour was pretty clear: get a sponsor, or you won’t see 2012.
PGA Tour vice president Ty Votaw says it is “imperative” for the tournament to secure a replacement sponsor to keep the tournament at Harbour Town Golf Links for 2012 and beyond.
Tournament director Steve Wilmot said it would cost about $7.6 million for a company to underwrite the event.
I’ve been to Harbour Town. It’s absolutely beautiful. It would be a damn shame to see this PGA Tour event go away. I sure hope someone steps up and puts their name on the event. It would be for a great cause.
