I think NBC golf commentators are the absolute worst on TV
and should be changed. They are always talking about the past accomlishments of golfers. Stick with the present. Johnny Millers guesses are, to the greatest percent wrong.
Its Time to change announcers
This question to Johnny Miller, Johnny, are you willing to make the case for one Johnny McDermott as one of the best golfers ever(much like yourself right down to the Johnny).
He was the first American born US Open winner in 1911 and youngest to this day to win it at 19.
What did he do to top that? He won the 1912 US Open as well.
He had various wins after that, the biggest was at Shawnee on Delaware against Harry Vardon and Ted Ray.
He was head golf pro at several courses in the Philadelphia area including Atlantic CC and Merchantville CC.
He had to leave golf only 3 years later because of an accident where a ship he was travelling on collided with another ship causing him to fall and slam his head on a bulkhead. The effects didn’t show until he got home and collapsed just inside the door of the Atlantic CC. He was diagnosed as schizophrenic an spent the rest of his days in mental institutions.
What a tragedy which ended the career of a young man considered to be the best player of his era and possible of all time. Johnny please report on McDermott for the 100th Anniversary of McDermott’s FABULOUS win for America.
Thank you, MAC McDermott(no relation)
You may want to send this comment NBC Sports’ way or tweet them at @nbc_sports. I don’t think NBC Sports or Johnny reads this blog.
Thanks for reading and posting, however.
OH My God, what an embarresing display of affection towards Tiger Woods after he won his own tournament. I would have expected this type of emotion out an announcer and network if something like Arnold Palmer had just come out of retirement and won the Masters. They had the years months days hours since thier beloved Tiger had last won a tournament. Big deal, he won a tournament and they are ready to put him back at the top of the rankings. The rest of the proffesional golfers should be enraged at the lack of respect showed to them as a whole. I didn’t think anyone could be a bigger ass than Tiger but you sure proved me wrong.
Mark
Curious, would you characterize yourself as a diehard or casual golf fan?
