In what appears to be a move they may soon regret, the Wyndham Championship (that’s the last regular season PGA Tour event, situated between the PGA Championship and the Barclays) announced today that they will allow cell phones to be brought on course. Yes, cell phones on a golf course at a PGA Tour event.
They will have to be kept on silent (like you really think that will get 100% compliance), and no one can take videos or pictures from Thursday-Sunday.
I personally think this is a horrible idea — I understand the thinking of the tournament director, but someone will forget to put their phone on silent, and a ringer will go off, and it’ll just be a disaster with golfers complaining and shots lost.
The article here that I’ll link to gives you quotes from the tournament director and defending champion Ryan Moore. But in short, I think this is a major, major mistake.

It’s time for golf to get off it’s high horse, remove their bell-bottoms, and join the rest of us in the year 2010.
Just want to say what a great blog you got here!
I’ve been around for quite a lot of time, but finally decided to show my appreciation of your work! That’s amazing.
Thumbs up, and keep it going!
