3 Jets things:

1) Laveranues Coles signed today, but thinks he may be released after the first 4 games. My take: if he’s good, he’ll stay.

2) Rex Ryan got a two year contract extension, Mike Tannenbaum five.

3) Darelle Revis may hold out.

And if I get consistent internet back soon, more posts!

ESPNnewyork.com’s Rich Cimini is reporting that WR Laveranues Coles is going to workout for the Jets tomorrow and is likely going to sign with them. It would be his third tour of duty for the Jets, who need WR depth with Santonio Holmes out for the first 4 games.

Great, great move. More later.

ESPNNewyork.com writer Rich Cimini just tweeted the following:

Mark Brunell’s deal is 2 yrs for about $2m. Sources say Kellen Clemens will go to camp, ostensibly to battle Brunell. Trade bait, anyone?

So finally, Mark Sanchez has a veteran backup to help tutor him along in the NFL. And it looks like the Kellen Clemens era (if you wanna even call it that, is over.)

Tiger Woods will be back on friendly ground at Firestone Country Club next week for the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational where he will attempt to get his first win for 2010. Anthony Kim will also make his return from his thumb surgery there.

The PGA Championship starts two weeks from tomorrow.

In what appears to be a move they may soon regret, the Wyndham Championship (that’s the last regular season PGA Tour event, situated between the PGA Championship and the Barclays) announced today that they will allow cell phones to be brought on course. Yes, cell phones on a golf course at a PGA Tour event.

They will have to be kept on silent (like you really think that will get 100% compliance), and no one can take videos or pictures from Thursday-Sunday.

I personally think this is a horrible idea — I understand the thinking of the tournament director, but someone will forget to put their phone on silent, and a ringer will go off, and it’ll just be a disaster with golfers complaining and shots lost.

The article here that I’ll link to gives you quotes from the tournament director and defending champion Ryan Moore. But in short, I think this is a major, major mistake.

I was about to write a blog post about how the Jets and Terrell Owens would be a horrible fit and a horrible thing to for the Jets to do. Thankfully, I don’t need to write that post.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that T.O. signed a 1-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals today.

Whew.

I’m sorry, but this has to be a joke. The Associated Press is reporting tonight that Ryder Cup Captain Corey Pavin will talk to Tiger Woods at the PGA Championship next month and “learn whether he wants to be in his team at Celtic Manor in Wales in October.” Really? Tiger wouldn’t want to play?

Let’s move beyond the fact that if I’m not mistaken Tiger has already says that he does want to. First of all, who wouldn’t want to represent your country? And secondly, even if he doesn’t make the team by points (he’s currently 7th with four events left before the cutoff), who wouldn’t want to have the world’s #1 player , one of the fiercest competitors, and a perfect partner for Steve Stricker or Jim Furyk on your team?

This whole thing has to be a joke.

I wrote this guest blog for my friend Andrew Vazzano’s Mets Blog The ‘Ropolitans. Enjoy.

My dad and I went to Citi Field way back on May 9 when they faced the San Francisco Giants. It was cold. And it was windy. For anyone living in this area you may remember that May featured a bunch of those chilly, windy days. It was my first time in Citi Field, and I was anxious to see what it looked like after hearing rave reviews.

(Oh, wait, I need to add a disclaimer here. I’m a big Tiger Woods fan…this was the Sunday of The Players Championship, and while waiting for the game to start, I got word that Tiger had withdrew due to a neck injury. Whether that impacted my view of Citi Field is up for debate.)

(Oh, and the other disclaimer. Oliver Perez was on the mound. And if you hadn’t already heard, he’s HORRIBLE. So what should have been a nice quick baseball game went on for about 4 hours. Whether that impacted my view of Citi Field is also up for debate.)

Anyways, the stadium is awesome. The big Jackie Robinson Rotunda is very nice looking, the wide concourses were great, and the food offerings for lunch were plentiful and very nice. Also, the enhanced, detail-driven scoreboards fit nicely in the stadium and with the modern day, young fan.

What I didn’t like was the lack of warm desert options (where are the nice, warm Mrs. Field’s cookies on a cold day…or DONUTS from Dunkin’ Donuts! I hate when stadiums just put DD coffee but not donuts in there.) Also, the lines at the Shake Shack were very long, and the stadium wasn’t even close to being sold out!

I guess the bottom line is that I need to return to Citi Field on a warm day, with a sold out crowd to get a true sense of the atmosphere and when Oliver Perez doesn’t pitch….but so far, so good from my perspective.

Most readers of the blog or listeners to my radio show know how big of a fan I am of CBS’ Survivor, which starts season 21 this fall on Wednesdays at 8pm ET. In fact, in 20 seasons I’ve only missed 3 episodes.

Well, news came yesterday that former Dallas Cowboys Head Coach and current FOX NFL studio analyst Jimmy Johnson will be a contestant. Apparently he tried out for Survivor: Gabon but failed his physical.

Survivor is one of those games that with minor twists per season doesn’t need to be tweaked, but having a name like Johnson on a season can be just the tweak in Survivors that the show needs to keep drawing in curious viewers. If true, I like this and am very anxious to see how it all plays out.

You may remember Defensive End Marques Douglas of the Jets from last season, who played a very nice role on the defensive line. Well, even after the Final 8 Rules that restricted the Jets from signing free agents went away yesterday, the Jets chose not to resign him. And now, according to the New York Daily News, he’s going to Miami:

The Daily News has learned that ex-Jet Marques Douglas has agreed to terms on a two-year deal for $2.5 million with the Miami Dolphins.

The Jets, who lack quality depth along the defensive line, seemed to be a logical destination for the veteran free agent defensive end. Instead, Bill Parcells scooped him up for the Jets’ AFC East rivals, according to a source.

And Parcells strikes again.
