Both ESPN.com and the NY Daily News are reporting that Jets starting RB Thomas Jones will get cut this week. $$ seems to be the reason. My favorite Jets beat writer, Rich Cimini disagrees with this decision, saying
On the most important running play of the 2009 season — fourth-and-1 in the San Diego divisional playoff game — who did Rex Ryan want to have the ball? Jones. Despite all the Greene fireworks, the coach wanted Jones.
I rest my case.
I agree completely. You can’t trust that Shonn Greene can be your everyvdown back in his second year. Jones deserves better and could have been insurance for one more year — insurance that, as Cimini points out — could be very useful if Leon Washington is not 100% by season’s start.
This is, unfortunately the sad state of football: a business.
