Rich Cimini thinks one of the most popular Jets may be on the chopping block:
It’s looking and sounding more and more like Thomas Jones will get released unless he takes a pay cut. It’s one of the sad realities of the NFL. I noticed that some shrill voices are suggesting that he take a pay cut. Why should he? The man put up career numbers. Jones has too much pride to take a cut after a 1,400-yard season. Barring a last-minute change of heart, Shonn Greene will be your tailback next season. I know this: Dumping Jones will be a very unpopular move in the locker room.
This is a mistake. But unfortunately unless one side gives in I’m not sure what can be done. Greene would be a nice primary running back, however.
