This post is going to look really familiar to one I did last year, but after today’s news, it will look slightly different:
For most weeks:
18th Tower — Jim Nantz and Nick Faldo
17th Tower — Ian Baker-Finch
16th Tower — Gary McCord
On Course Reporters — David Feherty and Peter Kostis
On some weeks, Bill Macatee will replace Jimmy in the 18th Tower, Bobby Clampett will either be a tower announcer or on course reporter, and Verne Lundquist appears on The Masters and PGA Championship coverage.
Also, this year Peter Oosterhuis’ role will only be reprised on CBS at The Masters and PGA Championship, where I’d assume he’d man the 17th tower.

Thanks for posting this i have been waiting for this event,
Why are all the pro golfers starting to look like billboards
with their shirts covered with numberous advertising. It
sure does spoil the look of the pros.
$$ talks.
I would like a reply to the abpve cp,,emts/
That’s the bottom line. The players need the sponsorship and let the players have to wear it on their clothes a result. It’s a win-win for everyone.
Why do all the TV announcers try to correct Tiger Woods’ swing while he’s playing tournaments such as the PGA Championship this weekend? I find this grossly unfair to the other players. If the announcers are trying to help Tiger, why don’t they help all the players and make it a habit of analyzing their swings during the season? Tiger is a great player and we know that he will get his game together after his lifestyle debacle. But the other players deserve the same treatment. Fair is fair.
Fans want to know what’s wrong, so they talk a lot about Tiger. YET, I bet Tiger doesn’t pay attention to it much at all. He’s very in tune with his circle of people and what he wants to work on.
So while all of them talk, not a lot of it will get back to Tiger.
It’s probably the same with a lot of players, as well.
Gentleman, I want to draw your attention to a comment made yesterday during the pga championship by one of your commentators. The commentator that has been trying to be cute and funny with what he says. Actually he is not very good at it at all.
I am sorry but I do not know his name, however I am certain you will remember his remark dealing with age.
I believe it is time to quite telling people that someone that is age 47 is old…The coment made went something like this: “He must do this now and it may be his last horizon as he is 47 and they are all younger, stronger and better”
I am 66 years of age, run five miles a day, work six days, travel around the world, engage with young people of all ages and I do not feel I am old!
Daniel,
66 isn’t old for an individual but 47 is for a PGA professional. Just like 34 is for an NBA player and 31 for a NFL player. A 47 yr old golfer is in his twilight on the PGA Tour.
Even you must admit that you can’t run as fast, or are not as strong as you were in your 20′s or 30′s if you were in shape back then.
I thought golf was supposed to be a gentlemans game.
The four or five announcers covering the last few holes of the Crowne Plaza Invitational were anything but professsional. They were all, and I mean all, hoping that David Toms would stumble and Wi would catch him.
What kind of commentary is that? Then Peter Kostass absolutely patronized him in the interview after he won.
What a bunch of crap. I’ll try, no, l’m sure I won’t watch any PGA events on CBS.
Great coverage starts with impartiality. Try some.
How could they act that way after the way Toms must have felt after last week. IDIOTS!!!!!!
Couple things:
1) CBS, and every other network, wants close finishes because it attracts viewers and ratings=$$.
2) I thought Peter’s interview was fine, and wasn’t patronizing. What didn’t you like about it?
If I hit my ball into a water hazard can I retrieve it with a club and than drop according to the rules without incuring a club grounding penilty
Not 100% sure about that. I’d recommend emailing or calling the USGA, information for which can be found here: http://www.usga.org/rules/contact/Contact-Us/
Why can’t The PGA use all American commentators for tournaments in this country? I get a little tired of the foreign accents. One of them can’t even say par, he says pah. Use them for golf overseas.
Also, let us enjoy golf without all the “expert” comments.
I hear y our point but: a) the networks will never change, and b) I think it adds an interesting dynamic — get the European prospective on things and with so many international players coming to prominence these days, it’s a great added bonus.
When is CBS going to give Baker-Finch and Nance a lesson in the superflous use of the the words here and there? Obviousy, neither one has any interest in listening to what they say and have very little command of the english language. I now turn off the announcers and just watch
