From the New York Daily News’ Rich Cimini:
This is hardly a shocker, but the Jets have decided to name rookie Mark Sanchez as their opening-day quarterback, the Daily News confirmed this morning.
Rex Ryan, in his first big decision as coach, picked Sanchez over career backup Kellen Clemens. The only thing surprising about it was the timing, with Sanchez coming off a mistake-filled performance Monday night in Baltimore.
This is no big surprise. Even though he had a shaky game the other night (more on that eventually, I promise) he had the much better camp than Kellen Clemens and you knew this was bound to happen. Now he can hopefully relax and have a good last preseason game against the Giants this weekend.
