Archive for December, 2008

Hope for a miracle. That’s what the Jets need — for somehow the Pats or Ravens to lose and the Jets to win — something they haven’t done convincingly since the game against the Titans — and move themselves into the playoffs.

We need to defend the run well, we need to defend the pass well. We need Brett Favre to be accurate. We special teams, especially Leon Washington to be dead on.

We need a miracle.

My Prediction: — 4:15pm ET — CBSHD w/Jim Nantz and Phil Simms

Pats 17
Bills 24

Dolphins 24
Jets 31

The miracle happens….“show a little faith there’s magic in the night….”

AOL Instant Messenger is a wonderful thing. My 6th grade class concluded our annual play/musical/whatever you want to call it with a song that included the lyric “life is a road and I wanna keep going.” It’s chased me for the last 9 years until last night when I saw an away message with familiar lyrics.

A Google search, and I found my answer: from the movie “Anastasia” – At the Beginning. Merry Christmas!

PGA Tour Digest Vol. 1 No. 48

This week, the PGA Tour announced the dates for 5 of the 6 Fall Series events. Those are the events that happen after the FedEx Cup playoffs. In a way those events, with lesser big names in the field, lower purses and television coverage kept to cable, could potentially be the first to go by the way side in a recession. So this was a very happy announcement for the PGA Tour to make.

To quote from the ESPN.com article: “The six events, plus the Presidents Cup, will begin Oct. 1 and will complete the PGA Tour season. It starts with the Turning Stone Resort Championship in Vernon, N.Y., takes one week off for the Presidents Cup, then goes to Las Vegas for the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

The Frys.com Open in Scottsdale, Ariz., is set for Oct. 22-25, followed by the Viking Classic in Madison, Miss., from Oct. 29 to Nov. 1. The Nov. 5-8 date remains unfilled.

The PGA Tour season will end Nov. 12-15 with the Children’s Miracle Network Classic at Disney World in Orlando, Fla.”

Those who follow golf closely may notice that two events are missing. One, the Valero Texas Open, has been moved to May as part of the regular tour schedule and part of a new “Texas Swing” (more on that in a coming post. The other tournament, the Ginn sur Mer Classic, is not on the schedule and seems to be caught up in sponsorship issues due to the housing crisis. (Ginn is a big real estate developer.)

As for that one open date left in the schedule, PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem says he’s “working on a couple of options” and hopes to have it filled soon.

It was so exciting, I forgot what it looked like. But luckily, the announcement that Mr. Springsteen is playing the Super Bowl rose again this week on YouTube, so I present it all to you. It’s so good:

A Note from Bruce

Mr. Springsteen has posted a holiday note on his website. But since a lot of people are probably to lazy to click on it, I’ll post it here:

Dear Friends and Fans,

“Some notes on the beginnings of Working on a Dream. During the last weeks of mixing Magic, we recorded a song called “What Love Can Do.” It was sort of a “love in the time of Bush” meditation. It was a great track but felt more like a first song of new record rather than something that would fit on Magic. So our producer Brendan O’Brien said, “Hey, let’s make another one right now!” I thought, no, I haven’t done that since my first two records came out in the same year. And usually I don’t write that quickly. But that night I went back to my hotel in Atlanta and over the next week, I wrote several songs (“This Life,” “My Lucky Day,” “Life Itself,” along with “Good Eye” and “Tomorrow Never Knows”) that formed the beginnings of our new album. Excited by the sounds we made on Magic I found there was more than enough fuel for the fire to keep going. Brendan and I demo’d these songs before we left the studio and agreed we’d somehow find time during the touring year to get this record made.

Over the past 10 years with Brendan, our ability to get records done and to work on a variety of projects at the same time (Yes, we can multi-task!) has allowed us to get a steadier stream of our best music out to our fans. This is something I’ve always wanted to do. We found time to book sessions, get the band while it was hot off the road, write and record a new record, while giving our audience what I hope was some of the best E Street shows we’ve ever done. We’re excited about you hearing this music and I just wanted to drop a line about how it all started. Have a great holiday and we’ll see you in the New Year!”

Dolphins-Jets to 4:15pm

My prediction was right — all Jets fans will have a nice little 4:15pm ET slot to see if miracles do happen. Pats-Bills is at 1pm, and the Ravens game is the same as ours, 4:15pm ET.

Here‘s the ESPN article about it.
